During the ISTE 2025 International Educational Technology Conference, Google unveiled a special version of its AI application called Gemini for Education — a suite of intelligent tools designed to support the teaching and learning process. This educational edition is developed based on the powerful Gemini 2.5 Pro model and is available to users of the Google Workspace for Education service.
Gemini for Education, in addition to providing free access to the professional version of Google’s AI models, offers an ideal environment for use in schools and universities by incorporating enterprise-grade security and full administrative controls for education managers.
AI in the Classroom: From Designing Exercises to Creating Videos
The Gemini in Classroom tool is now available for free across all versions of Google Workspace for Education. With this tool, teachers can quickly create glossaries, write lesson definitions, generate personalized exercises, and design more accurate assessments.
One of the exciting features of this tool is the creation of "Gems" — customized versions of Gemini that act as topic-focused AI assistants. These Gems can be designed for interactive simulations, guidance in scientific topics, or even answering students’ questions, and they will soon have sharing capabilities.
Multimedia Learning: Turning Text into Video with Just One Click
The NotebookLM tool, previously known mainly as a smart notebook, is now equipped with a feature called Video Overviews; this capability allows users to generate educational videos from course content with just one click.
Additionally, the advanced Gemini plugin in Google Workspace enables teachers to create 8-second videos with sound effects to better explain concepts — an engaging tool to make learning more captivating.
Special Features for Students: Quiz Maker, Interactive Charts, and Visual Learning
Students over 18 can now create their own quizzes using Gemini Canvas. This feature will soon be available for younger age groups as well. Gemini also presents answers with the help of charts, images, and interactive elements to make understanding difficult concepts easier.
Teachers can also share their Gems and educational content directly with students through platforms like Google Classroom, Canvas, or Schoology.
Data Security and Enhancing AI Literacy
Google has emphasized that educational users’ data is not used for training AI models. Content generated for users under 18 is also subject to strict quality and safety controls.
Upon their first use of Gemini, students will be guided with instructions to enhance their AI literacy. Additionally, parents and teachers will have tools to set access levels for Gemini and NotebookLM.
These tools have received the privacy certification seal from the reputable organization Common Sense Media, affirming Google’s commitment to data security and responsibility in the education sector.
